Engagement sessions built around a walk.
At a glance
Maximus Visions photographs 90-minute engagement sessions across New Jersey and New York City — from Bergen County downtowns and parks to DUMBO, the Brooklyn Bridge, and Central Park. Sessions cover one or two locations, are timed to end at golden hour, and are available with or without wedding coverage.
Our engagement sessions are structured as a 90-minute walk — one or two locations, unhurried, ending at golden hour. They're also a working rehearsal: you learn how we shoot, we learn how you move together, and your wedding-day portraits get better because of it.
Where are the best engagement photo locations?
Our most-requested loop is DUMBO at golden hour, then across the Brooklyn Bridge as the city lights come on. In New Jersey, Westwood's brick downtown, Wyckoff's farm roads in October, and the New Bridge Landing stone bridge lead the list. The right answer depends on you — skyline, small-town, or somewhere that's already yours.
What should we expect during the session?
Expect a walk, not a photoshoot. We give light direction — where the light is, when to slow down — and then let you be together. The first fifteen minutes always feel a little formal; by minute thirty nobody remembers the camera, and that's where the gallery's best frames come from.
When should we schedule it?
Four to eight months before the wedding is ideal — close enough that the photos feel current for save-the-dates, far enough that the wedding isn't crowding the calendar. We schedule the session itself to end at golden hour, whatever the season.

Frequently asked
Can we do our engagement session in Central Park?
Yes — Bethesda Terrace, Bow Bridge, and the Conservatory Garden are all regular locations for us, and we handle the NYC Parks permit and plan around the crowds with early-morning or weekday windows.
Should we bring a second outfit?
If we're doing two locations, yes — one relaxed, one dressed-up covers the full range. For single-location sessions, one outfit you genuinely feel like yourselves in beats two you don't.
Is an engagement session included with wedding coverage?
It's available with all our wedding collections and most couples include it — the session doubles as a portrait rehearsal before the wedding day. Inquire with your date and we'll walk you through the options.
Can our dog be in the engagement photos?
Absolutely — bring a friend or family member to dog-wrangle so the second half of the session can be just the two of you.
Where can we get NYC skyline engagement photos if we live in New Jersey?
From the New York side, DUMBO and Gantry Plaza State Park put the skyline behind you at golden hour. From the Jersey side, the Hudson waterfront gives you the full Manhattan panorama with far smaller crowds — often the better choice for a relaxed session.
We're awkward in front of cameras — how do you make photos look natural?
Almost every couple says this, and it's exactly why our sessions are built around a walk instead of poses. We give you things to do, not ways to stand — and by minute thirty nobody remembers the camera. The 'awkward' couples routinely end up with our favorite galleries.
When is the best time of year for engagement photos in New Jersey?
October is the headline — Wyckoff's farm roads and New Bridge Landing in peak color are hard to beat. Late spring brings garden blooms, and summer gives long golden-hour evenings. Winter sessions can be stunning too: bare branches, low light, and nobody else in the park.
